Gorgeous raw fleece
See what I mean?
There were so many different colors and varieties, including karukul, rambouillet and Navajo churro fleeces, and some mohair as well.
Previewing the fleeces
Also in attendance were celebrity podcasters and bloggers, and everywhere people laughing, spinning, knitting, eating, visiting, not to mention lots of excited bidding.

The auctioneer team were absolutely adorable:
Auctioneering
The Monterey Wool Auction 2008 was so much fun, and so inspiring...and I don't even spin...yet. Maybe by this time next year, when the wool auction rolls around. But this year I was just looking and listening and trying to learn, and to keep from drooling.
Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One to mend the jerseys
one to mend the socks
and one to mend the holes in
the little girls' frocks.

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

Oh my but does that look like something dangerously fun! Y'know, I just started crocheting in March and knitting last month and already I'm totally hooked (erm, yes, pun intended!) on yarn and fiber and all that deliciousness!

Oh.What.Fun.
I'd say.... start checking your classifieds, craiglists, ebay, etc for a wheel. Just start looking.

I've yet to be tempted to buy a whole fleece, that takes even more tools but I'm not about to say I won't...someday.

I'm spinning now. So.Much.Fun. I'm astounded that it's legal.... well, you know.
